Actress Kris Aquino acknowledges President Rodrigo Duterte‘s words, saying that her father, the late Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., died at the hands of former President Ferdinand Marcos.
In her Facebook post, she addressed a part of Duterte’s statement and said that she admires him for his authenticity. She also thanked the President’s supporters and other officials for their kind words.
“I still admire your authenticity President Duterte, but please allow a daughter to speak through this post? Kasi po sa maraming magandang narinig ko mula mismo sa mga Duterte supporters and members of government patungkol po sa inyo, lahat sila sinasabi, naguumapaw ang pagmamahal ninyo po sa inyong mommy, si Nanay Soling. Pareho po tayo, I love my mom with all my heart,” Kris wrote as a caption to a compilation highlighting her parents.
“Kasi may quote po si PRRD na nakitaan ko ng katotohanan ang kaniyang mga nabitawang salita.”
In the quote, the President said that the reason why former President Cory Aquino became popular was that her husband died at the hands of Marcos.
The actress posted the direct quote from Duterte’s speech, “Cory Aquino may be popular, she is popular today. Why? For losing the husband in the hands of Mr. Marcos…,”
He was referring to the assassination of former Senator Aquino in 1983 at the now-Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“Thank you for acknowledging our family’s loss, and who was behind it. Salamat, Mr. President,” she added.
Kris and Noynoy are the two of Cory and Ninoy’s five children. In 1998, Noynoy was elected to the House of Representatives as Tarlac‘s 2nd district representative. He was elected to the senate in 2007.
Around three years later, the Congress of the Philippines proclaimed Noynoy as the winner of that year’s Presidential elections. His Presidency began on June 10, 2010, succeeding Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Noynoy died in his sleep on June 24, 2021, due to diabetic nephropathy. His remains were cremated and are scheduled to be buried at the Manila Memorial Park.
