For the first time, Ces Drilon opened up about the story behind her break-up with a partner of 13 years. She admitted that one of the reasons why her relationship worked for so long is because they weren’t bound by marriage.
“We aren’t married—that’s why it works (laughs)! Seriously, I think it comes from a deep respect for each other and knowing when to give in,” she said in her interview with Lifestyle Asia.
So who was Ces’s now ex-partner? To those who do not know, it refers to Ricky Carandang who is a former ANC anchor and correspondent.
The former ABS-CBN broadcaster admitted that both of them “were no longer nurturing each other” which lead to their separation.
Now single again, Ces remained optimistic and motivated herself by focusing on her goals.
“I’m still very positive that I will be able to pursue what I want, even without him beside me.”
Not just in her personal life but Ces’ career also suffered from the challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Amid the outbreak, she was one of the employees that ABS-CBN had to let go as Congress denied its franchise renewal.
“I lost not just the income, but also my purpose. I had to ask myself, ‘What will I do now?’”
Despite the hurdles, she decided to focus on the time she gained for her self-improvement. She now appreciates live streaming (which she does on KUMU) and treats it as a new experience for her to hone her skills even more.
“My schedule has become lighter. I told myself, ‘This is the time when I can focus.'” she said.
“I was a bit apprehensive because I’m used to mass media and all of a sudden, here I am live streaming. I thought people would probably degrade it. ut my fears were groundless because it’s been so rewarding. It got me to sharpen my conversation skills, enabling me to draw out the Gen Z and millennials, as well as their aspirations and their dreams. Otherwise, I would’ve just been talking to the usual or only a certain segment of society.”
Ces also made her dream organic farm come to life. She devotes her time to Vagabon Farms and uses its produces like malunggay and madre de cacao in soapmaking.
