Veteran singer and actress Sharon Cuneta shared her opinion regarding the statement made by Senator Grace Poe about the discrepancies found in the Department of Health‘s usage of the Php67 billion fund that was supposed to be for the country’s COVID-19 response.
In Sharon’s Instagram account, she posted a photo of the Senator who said, “Sinayang ng DOH ang pagkakataong makatulong sa napakaraming Pilipinong may sakit dahil sa hindi maayos na paggastos sa Php67 bilyong pondo na hiningi nila mismo sa Kongreso. Napakalaking pagpapabaya ang ginawa nila dito.”
The singer agreed with Poe and said that the numbers that are backed up with data simply don’t lie.
“Sad but true. Numbers (especially in Pesos) do not lie when they are backed by solid evidence. “
A few days ago, the Department of Health (DOH) was once again in the hot seat after the Commission on Audit (COA) found discrepancies in how the agency managed its Php67.32 billion fund to fund the country’s fight against COVID-19.
According to COA’s annual report for DOH in 2020, deficiencies were about non-compliance with appropriate rules and regulations. Unfortunately, this led to DOH missing opportunities when it comes to controlling the pandemic.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III refused to resign despite netizens’ and lawmakers’ call for him to do so. However, he added that the decision regarding his job post is in President Rodrigo Duterte’s hands.
“Yung track record ko eh huwag naman sanang kalimutan, nanilbihan naman tayo nang maayos,” he said.
“Na kay Presidente yan. Siya naman ang may ayaw na mag-resign ako ever since.”
Duque also claimed that there was a reason why President Rodrigo Duterte chose him to lead the Department of Health (DOH) because of his experiences and abilities that could help serve the government.
