MANILA, Philippines- TV 5 starlets RR Enriquez and Jeck Maierhofer earned the ire of netizens after a video of the two honking at a sleeping commuter surfaced online. The video was posted on the Facebook page of Top Gear Philippines on Sunday, February 8 and has been shared more than 5,000 times.
The hosts of the TV 5 show “Happy Wife, Happy Life” wanted to have a little fun while inside their car. Starlet RR Enriquez decided to capture the whole stunt on video.
So what exactly was their idea of fun?
Here’s the video originally uploaded by Topgear:
At the beginning of the video, Enriquez gave a small introduction about their stunt. She was heard saying: “Okay, ladies and gentlemen, ang gagawin po namin is bubusina po kami para magising si kuya.”
(Okay, ladies and gentlemen, what we will do is we will honk to wake him up.)
Indeed, the two were successful in waking the sleeping passenger inside a UV express van in front of them.
Several netizens expressed their anger over the rude behaviour of the two celebrities.
One Facebook user commented: “Some people can buy their own cars… But class can never be bought and breeding is never for sale.”
Another Facebook user pointed out that the only time the sleeping passenger could probably rest was inside the van, but Enriquez and Maierhofer took it away from him just because they wanted to have fun.
Starlets Issue Their Apologies
Hours after the controversial video spread like wildfire on social media, the TV 5 talents issued their apologies.
In her Instagram account, Maierhofer wrote:
”This incident has taught me to be more sensitive towards people’s feelings and be more responsible for my actions. Tao lang po ako, hindi po ako perpekto, thank you sa lahat ng nagmessage, thank you sa asawa ko na hindi ako jinudge at niyakap ako, yan lang po talaga ang kailangan ko ngayon. Again, sorry po ulit.”
Meanwhile, Enriquez admitted that she and Maierhofer made a mistake in her Instagram account.
“Nag honk kami para magising sya.. At first i thought it was funny. Some people took it seriously, some people think its funny.. Kanya-kanyang comment.. But now i can honestly say Yes you are rights [sic] its rude.. Nabreak din yung heart ko when i realized na siguradong pagod yung guy na yun kaya sya nakatulog and yet ayun inisteal pa namin yung konting tulog na magagawa nya sana Sometimes we tend to do things dahil akala natin funny.. We do things ng hindi muna tayo nag iisip and i must say im one of them,” Enriquez wrote.
Aside from issuing an apology, Enriquez also urged her detractors to stop judging her by posting a Bible quote in her Instagram account.
Enriquez and Maierhofer competed as teammates in the Pinoy version of the Amazing Race show in the same network.
I forgive you both….very well said..
