Veteran broadcaster Julius Babao has officially joined TV5’s primetime newscast Frontline Pilipinas. Before his debut on February 7, he sat down with the media to discuss his move to the Kapatid network.
Babao made it clear that his transfer was more about growing as an anchor and less about money.
“It’s really about yung growth ko as a news anchor,” he said.
When asked why he thinks TV5 made the right decision in signing him, he cited his nearly three decades of experience and the fact that he’s never been associated with any serious scandals.
“Years of experience. 28 years of working as a journalist plus yung record ko ba untainted when it comes to issues ng corruption. Inalagaan ko yung pangalan ko through the years. Hindi ako nainvolve sa mga scandal, mga issues ng lagayan.” he said.
Babao maintained that he remains incorruptible. However, during his time in GMA, he revealed rejecting a handsome amount after covering a trial.
“I have protected my integrity through the years na hindi ako tumanggap ng kahit anong suhol sa kahit sinong politiko o tao,
“Kung may magaabot tinatanggihan ko talaga,” he shared.
He seeks to do what he did in ABS-CBN during his time in TV5, helping the indigent.
“I’m hoping for a show where I can use my skills as a radio anchor to reach listeners and viewers even in the provinces. Matagal kasi nawala ang ABS-CBN sa mga probinsiya and I heard malakas ang TV5 sa mga provinces. It’s my way of reaching out to them again and helping them after about two years of absence.”
Babao’s journalistic career started in 1990 with GMA 7’s DZBB. After three years, he transferred to ABS-CBN. He anchored radio shows with his wife in 1996 and eventually became a household name in the industry.
