These families snatched three or more political positions in the province, making them among the prominent and leading political dynasties that prevailed in the 2022 national elections.
Powerful political clans maintain an iron grip on the political affairs of their respective bailiwicks, after the dreaded 2022 national elections. As the call to pass stronger laws preventing members of the same family from simultaneously occupying various government posts, gets louder, several families continue to reign supreme.
In Masbate, the prominent Kho family swept the top executive and legislative posts in the province. Husband-and-wife Antonio Kho and Olga Kho won their bids as governor and vice-governor of the province, respectively. Their three children, Richard, Ara, and Wilton, are presumptive representatives of the first, second, and third legislative districts of Masbate, respectively. The family successfully fended off two rival political clans, the Lanetes and the Bravos, from taking over.
In Cavite, the Remullas Barzagas, and the Revillas remain the strongest political families holding various offices in the province. At least three members of these families are set to take some of the leading executive and legislative posts in the province.
Jonvic Remulla succeeds in his re-election bid as the province’s governor, while his brothers Boying and Ping, are set to get a fresh term as representative and board member, respectively, of the seventh legislative district. The mother-and-daughter tandem, Lani Mercardo-Revilla, and Jolo Revilla are presumptive respective representatives of the 1st and second districts of the province, while Ram Revilla is a presumptive board member of the second district. In the City of Bacoor, Strike Revilla replaces his mom, Lani, as its new Mayor.
The Barzagas, who staunchly supported Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential campaign, kept their hold of Dasmariñas City’s political affairs. Incumbent mayor Jenny Barzaga and Representative Elpidio Barzaga, claimed victory in their bids for re-election, while Kiko Barzaga, Jenny’s son, emerged as the number one choice to become one of the city’s councilors.
In the province of Isabela, members of the Dy and Albano clans are again entrusted by their constituents with some of the province’s top government positions. Three of the province’s six legislative districts are to be represented by members of the Dy family. Ian, Mike, and Inno, each won their respective bids to represent the third, fifth, and sixth legislative districts of Isabela, while King Dy, is set to be proclaimed as one of the board members of the province’s fifth legislative district.
Rodolfo Albano, the incumbent governor of the province, meanwhile, won his re-election bid, while Delfinito Emmanuel Albano is to take one of the provincial board member seats for the first district. Tonypet Albano, meanwhile, is set to represent the first legislative district of the province.
While Senator Manny Pacquiao lost his presidential bid, some members of his family nevertheless made it in the provinces of Sarangani and South Cotobato Rogelio Pacquiao is the presumptive governor of the province, while Bonifacio Pacquiao is victorious in his bid as a councilor in the town of Alabel. In General Santos City, Lor Pacquiao is seat to lead the city as its mayor.
The Singson family are also tightening their grip in Ilocos Sur with Jerry Singson and Ryan Singson, getting elected as the respective governor and vice-governor of the province Ronald Singson and Kristine Singson, meanwhile, will represent the first and second district of the province, respectively.
The family of the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is quickly proving itself as among the biggest political dynasties in the country, especially in Mindanao where top local positions are set to welcome members of the family. Of course, presumptive vice president Sara Duterte-Carpio is poised to take the reins from her father, as the family’s most powerful political figure.
In Davao City, Baste Duterte replaces her sister, Sara, as the city’s new mayor. Paolo Duterte, meanwhile, won his bid as the representative of the city’s first legislative district.
With Ferdinand Marcos Jr. already poised to take the seat of the Malacañang, the Marcos family is again the most powerful political clan in the country. But Bongbong becoming the new president isn’t the only manifestation of that truth, as members of their family are also set to occupy various positions in the Ilocos region.
The political novice, Sandro Marcos, won his bid as the first legislative district’s representative. Imee Marcos’s son, Matthew Manotoc, is similarly victorious in his re-election as the province’s governor. Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, meanwhile, is set to take the province’s vice-gubernatorial post.
