A True OPM Legend: Here’s why Chito Miranda’s inclusion in ‘Idol Philippines’s new judging panel got a warm welcome from netizens, viewers

Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano and Parokya Ni Edgar, Chito Miranda, serve as the new members after Vice Ganda and James Reid vacated their seats at the reality talent search’s judging table.

Fans and viewers of the show expressed approval and delight over the Parokya Ni Edgar’s inclusion on the reality talent show’s new judging panel.

There is another good reason to look forward to the new season of Idol Philippines—the local counterpart of the massively successful American talent reality show, American Idol. Yesterday, May 20, ABS-CBN formally introduced the show’s new set of judges, which still includes season 1’s, Moira de la Torre and Regine Velasquez.

Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano and Parokya Ni Edgar, Chito Miranda, serve as the new members after Vice Ganda and James Reid vacated their seats at the reality talent search’s judging table. In a social media post, Miranda shared that the show reached out to him as early as its first season, but he declined because he believed he isn’t good enough as a singer. Through a TV Patrol report, he confirmed that his wife’s encouragement convinced him to accept the offer for the show’s second season.

Nung season 1, they already asked me na maging judge for @idolphilippines but I declined because I didn’t think it would be fair for me to judge in a singing contest, knowing na di naman ako magaling kumanta,” he shared.

On twitter, the news got warmly received by fans and netizens, who noted the diversity of the judging panel for the new season, and the fact that they are all established singers.

Miranda is [particularly] noted for being a true OPM legend.

Jolan expressed his approval to Miranda’s new appointment saying, “A BIG YES TO CHITO MIRANDA AS ONE OF THE JUDGES OF IDOL PHILIPPINES SEASON 2!” in a tweet.

Jords remind people of Miranda’s stature in the industry.

He is an OPM icon and he is also a producer to other bands and artists. Ayun lang.”

For Miko, the new set of judges meets all his expectations and qualifications.

Approve sa akin ito. Level up ang judges (I approve tgis panel! The judges are a level up).”

Nikowl, on the other hand, noted that Miranda’s inclusion in the panel allows the show to attract a new segment of the market.

“Ganda ng inclusion ni Chito Miranda as Idol PH Season 2 judge. He taps a different target market than the three other judges, hindi pa siya nag-judge sa other singing shows, and at the same time it’s an atypical pick that I think we’ll look back as a genius move for the show.”

A new host will soon be on board.

Billy Crawford, who hosted the show’s first season, left ABS-CBN in 2020. Idol Philippines will replace Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10 on its primetime weekend slot.
