A former sexy star, herself, Jaclyn Jose shared why she has been very welcoming to new actors and actresses in the business, especially to new sexy stars.
“Just be nice and work”, shared seasoned and award-winning actress, Jaclyn Jose, when asked at the grand press con of her upcoming Vivamax film, Tahan, what is the secret of a smooth working relationship at the set.
The actress, who already worked with legendary filmmakers like Lino Brocka, Ishmael Bernal, and Chito Roño, imparted words of wisdom to newbies, and why she has been very accommodating to newbie stars, including the lead actress of the film, Cloe Barreto.
“I am very welcoming to new actors and actresses, kasi nga I once was there. Nanggaling ako diyan sa simula, sa sexy film, sa bagong artista, at walang nag-block sa akin to move on. So I’m just giving back lang naman what Tito Charito Solis has given me, and all the senior actors, veterans before me” she explained.
Jose notably started as a sexy star in the ‘80s. Among her first films include daring sexy dramas like Chicas (1984), White Slavery (1986), and Working Girls 2 (1987).
The seasoned actress also shared how her past experiences in the show business while she was starting, prompted her to be welcoming to new artists.
“Noong panahon namin, pag big star ang sexy star, nananakot ng baguhan. As much as possible, sisindakin ka talaga. They will look (at you) from head to toe.We don’t like that, kasi it happened to me na.
(During my time, when a sexy star is big and popular, they usually intimidate newbies. They would terrify you as much as possible, by looking at you from head to toe. I don’t like that because it already happened to me)” she said as she also recalled wt she learned from her predecessors.
“I am very welcoming new actors and actresses, kasi nga I was once there. Nanggaling ako diyan sa simula, sa sexy film, sa bagong artista, at walang nag-block sa akin to move on. So I’m just giving back lang naman what Tito Charito Solis has given me, and all the senior actors, veterans before me” she added.
Bobby Bonifacio, the director of the film, meanwhile, vouched for the generosity of the award-winning actress, whom he and the members of both the cast and the press, as ‘Miss Jane’, because of her real first name.
“Si Miss Jane po, honestly noong unang dating syempre, Miss Jaclyn jose ‘yan, nasindak po ako. Takot po ako sa kanya noong una, pero very generous po si Miss Jane.
(I was honestly terrified, when Miss Jane first came to the set. Of course, she’s already a Jaclyn Jose; I really got nervous, but Miss Jane turned out to be very generous),” he said.
Bonifacio has done several projects before, including the Star Cinema movies, Hellcome Home (2019), and My Lockdown Bromance (2020).
“She’s very generous po…andami niyang natulungan sa set pati po ako, pati po si Chloe, sa mga eksena nila. Mapagbigay po talaga siya. Yung wisdom nya, naisishare nya. So it was very a collaborative project po sa amin.
(She contributes a lot. She helped me, even Chloe, in their scenes. She is really generous, when it comes to sharing her wisdom. So it was really a collaborative project for us),” he added.
Jaclyn Jose admitted that there were times those newbie actors who could not deliver their scenes disappointed her sometimes, but she just always remember her past experiences and just allow them to do their scenes their way and shine.
“Sabi ko, lahat ng baguhan, I will help. Kasi I once was there…galing tayo diyan. Hindi tayo yung tipo ng artista na kung ano man ang narating natin eh, magiging madamot na tayo sa mga next generation—no, we will help, for the industry to become better” she shared.
Tahan also stars JC Santos, Karl Medina, Mercedes Cabral, EJ Salamante, AJ Oteyza, Mac Cardona, Stiff Banzon , and Joseph San Jose. The movie debuts on Vivamax on July 22.
