Davao City — Pro-life Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Tim Tebow spearheaded the opening of the Tebow CURE Hospital last May 1, 2015.
In spite of the 9,000-mile distance, the Tim Tebow Foundation has partnered with CURE International to construct the Tebow CURE Hospital in Davao City. CURE is a Christian non-profit organization focused on providing medical care to children suffering primarily from orthopedic and neurological conditions. Subsequently, the Tebow CURE Hospital specializes in pediatric orthopedics, providing charitable treatment to children with conditions like knock knees, bowed legs, and neglected clubfoot. The hospital also provides orthopedic consultations and surgery for adults in need of total joint replacements or arthroscopic surgery, as well as treatment for spine conditions and sports injuries.
The grand opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the hospital, followed by an open house. In attendance were members of CURE International, led by Dale Brantner, president and CEO; representatives of the Tim Tebow Foundation; the Tebow family; the Sacred Harvest Foundation; Davao’s local government unit led by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte; the U.S. Embassy; USAID; and the Philippine Department of Health.
The Tebow CURE Hospital special features include Timmy’s Playroom, a special space set aside where children who are patients at the hospital can take a break from medical treatment and enjoy being a kid. The playroom was decorated and equipped by the Tim Tebow Foundation, honoring the Philippines-born athlete.
“We’re excited to be open for business in Davao City, and we’re grateful for the strong support from the community, our donors, and other partners to make this project a reality,” said Tebow CURE Hospital Executive Director Leron Lehman. “We are already providing life-changing surgeries to children with physical disabilities and are excited about the opportunity we have to make a difference.”
The Philippines has held a special place in the pro-life football star’s heart since his mother Pam Tebow rejected abortion during her pregnancy with him while on a mission trip in the Philippines. Pam was diagnosed with dysentry, an intestinal inflammation, especially in the colon, that can lead to severe diarrhea with mucus or blood.
Pam was informed by doctors that abortion and removing the “fetal tumor” was the only way to save her life. Pam, however, refused the procedure and she and Tim miraculously survived. Tim now returns to the Philippines with his family to give back through the Tebow CURE Hospital.
