Debuting in 2000, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is one of the longest running crime drama series on TV but fans recently received disappointing news from the show’s producers. According to US network CBS, the show will end its 15-season run with a two-hour special on September 27 this year.
As a consolation to loyal fans, the show is bringing back William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger, the original stars, for this two-hour movie special. Current star Ted Danson will be moving on to CSI: Cyber.
Moving on to the Spin Offs
Fans who have been closely following the show even through the numerous changes it has undergone in the past years have come to love the current stars who would move on to the spin-off series, CSI: Cyber. According to reports, CBS no longer wants to air another season of the show as it wants to focus on the spin-off and did not want the two shows to be in conflict with each other.
CSI: Cyber debuted in March. The show stars Patricia Arquette, James Van Der Beek, and Peter MacNicol.
What began as a creation by Anthony E. Zuiker in 2000 took life on its own, with popular spin-offs that had also aired for several years. CSI: Miami debuted in 2002 and ended in 2012 while CSI: NY debuted in 2004 and ended in 2013.
It is not clear why CBS is scrapping CSI: Crime Scene Investigation altogether because of CSI: Cyber when it had been able to go neck to neck with other spin offs in the past and managed to survive on its own.
