Social media has become a popular medium to relay stories to people. It’s a powerful tool that keeps us updated on what is happening around us. When used wisely, it can be something that can keep us connected to the society.
One netizen tried to make the most out of social media, and put it to good use. Kinah Villanueva shared in her post some photos and the story of a disabled man she met on Gen. Santos Avenue in Bicutan. He does not beg for alms, but instead sells bread for a living. Villanueva said her heart melted at the sight of him: he was thin, hunchbacked, and mute, but was greatly touched at his determination and perseverance.
“Naisip kong kuhanan siya ng litrato para magsilbing inspirasyon ito sa iyo at sa akin. Pangako ko sa kanya na dapat makilala siya sa FB dahil sa kanyang sipag at tiyaga. Hindi kagaya ng mga pulubi na nagkukunwaring may kapansanan para makapaglimos.”
(I decided to share this picture of diligence and persistence to serve as an inspiration to you and me. His hard work is sincere unlike other beggars who pretend to be disabled just to get alms.)
Villanueva called on to other online users who live in Bicutan or to whoever will pass along the Gen. Santos Ave. to go buy some goods from the “extra special” vendor. She also requested we say a prayer for healing and ask for more blessings for the man.

Her post has been shared for more than 9,000 times as of this writing, and has captured the hearts of some generous online users who expressed their intention to help the disabled guy.
Netizens were so eager to help that they created a group they called “100-Peso-Project” to provide a small sari-sari store for “kuya“, the disabled vendor. The aim is to collect Php 100 from anyone who are willing to donate and open up a small store to sustain “kuya’s” everyday needs. Kinah and the 100-peso-project team re-visited ‘Kuya Mulong’ to hand him Php 1,000.00 on July 18, 2015 and goods, on July 30,2015 for him to sell.
