Over the years, Japan has created some weird food, like citrus-scented eggs, poo-flavored curry, black burger, deep-fried maple leaves to name a few. Today, they are adding a new item on their expanding list: neon udon (thick noodles).
Scientist and food writer Kurare Raku invented glow-in-the-dark noodles and posted it on Twitter last week.
Under a normal light, the dish shows pink noodles topped with dark green strips of tofu.
But when put under a “radioactive” light, the udon’s appearance changes into neon pink noodles swimming in a neon green broth, topped with slabs of blue tofu.
According to AsiaTown, the bright-colored dish was prepared for display at the Unbelievable Science Festival which took place in Osaka, Japan last August.
Although Raku did not disclose any information on how the noodles were made, he said that it tasted exactly like regular, plain udon noodles.
This wasn’t his first time to produce psychedelic-colored food. If you check his Twitter account, you’ll see a few of his other colorful food creations which include violet and pink rice, flourescent sherbet and many more.
