Pranks are funny until someone gets hurt. One practical joke that went too far is the gunshot prank in China that went viral.
A group of pranksters wanted to play tricks on passersby. An accomplice makes a fake gunshot sound (others light a firecracker) round a corner, then the “victim” steps in front of the bystander, kneeling and begging, “Please don’t kill me.”
He then falls down the moment there is a “gunshot.” The passersby, thinking they witnessed a crime, panic and run away.
However, one man did not react in shock like they expected after the prank. Instead, he took out a gun and shot the person hiding around the corner whom he thought took the life of the “victim.”
The person carrying the camera immediately ran towards his buddy while the other prankster called for help on his phone.
The Fire of Fun reported the person they wanted to play a joke on was, in fact, a policeman.
Netizens debated over the authenticity of the video.
One commenter believed it’s real. “The off duty cop was coming forward reaching for his gun, when the kid got fake shot, the cop immediately went to the container for cover and shot the kid with the fake gun, there was recoil to the cop’s gun and muzzle blast.” Although not a cop, the military-trained netizen added, “It was a real gun and real blood.”
On the other hand, Kevin, who claimed to be a soldier, said it’s definitely fake because he did not saw the gun recoil. “I didn’t saw any f*** shell coming out the gun.”
User mz74smart also explained that the shooter could not be a cop. “He’s wearing a suit, so probably mafia gang member. Second, policemen in China don’t carry loaded guns. Even their bullets are issued depending on the mission.”
Another non-believer was rudymcfarlane who said that the aim of the weapon and blood location was different adding that the fire from the gun was made using Adobe After Effect software. “You see a shadow of the camera person immediately so he was close so if it was a cop he would have known that they were filming.” He also questioned the angle of the camera before the footage ended. “Why is the camera so closed (sic) to the guy on the ground if they were helping? If your friend was killed during a prank you guys were doing, will you upload it on YouTube for views and a few cents?”
