Former actress Cynthia Patag is at it again, taking another jab at presidential candidate, Vice President Jejomar Binay.
She first criticized the vice president last August in an open letter she posted on her Facebook page. This time, she apparently reposted another open letter she said she first read online and is credited to have been written by the “Sambayanang Pilipino.” (The Filipino People.) The post begins by quoting a few lines from a paid Binay television ad, “Bakit kung sino pa yung Nognog, Pandak yun pa yung nagpa-aral nang libre sa libu-libong bata at nagbigay ng libreng gamot sa libu-libong Senior Citizens sa Makati?” (Why is it that the one who is dark-skinned, short, is the one who actually provided free education to thousands of young people and who gave free medication to thousands of senior citizens in Makati?) The open letter then begins to counter this claim.

First, it criticizes using Makati as the benchmark for his success, asking instead what Binay had accomplished in the six years that he held office as the vice president. The letter writer further asks if, during his tenure, he was able to replicate his success in Makati with at least one other city. “Mawalang-galang na po – bakit po hanggang ngayon yung Makati pa din ang benchmark nyo sa mga nagawa ninyo, e, samantalang 6 years kayong naging second top-ranking official ng Pilipinas? Na-replicate nyo po ba ang nagawa nyo sa Makati sa kahit isang syudad man lang?” Further questions are asked, and accusations were hurled. “Bakit po kami magtitiwala na may magagawa kayo para sa Pilipinas? Ang gusto nyo lang atang ma-replicate ay yung kinita nyo sa Makati na bilyon-bilyon kuno.” (Why should we trust that you can accomplish things for the nation? Maybe the only thing you want to replicate is the billions you earned out of Makati.) It then ends with, “Mr. Binay, ang pagiging Pangulo po ay RESPONSIBILIDAD, hindi OPORTUNIDAD. Ang Pilipinas ay pangangalagaan, hindi pagkakakitaan.Pero ako’y tunay na humahanga sa inyong MATIBAY NA PANINIWALA AT PANININDIGAN – sa sarili mong mga KASINUNGALINGAN.” (Mr. Binay, being president is a responsibility, not an opportunity. The Philippines needs nurturing, not profiteering. But I am in awe at your beliefs and principles – at believing your own lies.)
In a separate reply, Ms. Patag seems to answer why Binay hasn’t accomplished anything as vice president. “Kasi si VP-Binay, busy sa nationwide campaign niya to become the next PH president, using taxpayers’ funds.” (Because VP Binay was busy with his nationwide campaign to run as president, using taxpayers’ funds.)
