It is very easy to identify objects that can cause us pain and harm like sharp objects or chemicals as such. But did you know that there are few everyday objects and actions we do that could trigger pain in various parts of the body that could lead to more serious conditions if left untreated?
These 10 things are not necessarily dangerous but it will help to take extra caution when handling these objects or doing such movements.
1. Flip-flop
Flip-flops are usually called comfort footwear since your foot is barely encased in anything at all. They can give you some basic protection to the bottom of your foot to walk on a warm surface but actually, your feet just lay flat when in flip-flops.
Your feet actually need arch support especially when walking to avoid unnecessary pain.
2. Smart Phones
Ever get that pain in your hands when you’ve been texting non-stop for quite some time? Constantly being glued to devices such as smart phones can cause several muscle issues such as tendinitis or the inflammation of the tendons.
Overusing and repetitive motions of the hands or fingers can cause discomfort not just in our hands but it can also lead to pain in the wrist and forearm because they are all inter-connected that may result to having carpal tunnel. “Rest and massage your hands to avoid any inconvenience.”
3. Your Wallet
Sitting with your wallet in your back pocket is a sure way to get back pain. Notice why drivers always complains and feel tired after getting out of a car? Sitting on your wallet while you drive could result to having a lower back problem–if you do it often.
This is because your butt cheeks are not level with each other. If one is higher than the other, it can trigger chronic pain in your back, hips, and shoulders and even cause foot cramps. The unevenness throws off your alignment and compresses the sciatic nerve, which runs from each side of the spine down through the back of each thigh to the foot.
4. Driving
According to Alan Hedge, Ph.D., C.P.E. professor of ergonomics at Cornell University, driving makes your body feel a lot of different forces in a car, from accelerations, side-to-side swaying, and vibrations. This constant movement while sitting can cause damages to the vertebrae and increase the chances of back problems.
The best way to prevent this is to take regular breaks from driving–especially long ones–and take the time to walk around and stretch.
5. Bras
Wearing a bra that is too tight can cause pain to your chest and back area. Make sure that your bra fits perfectly and the straps are not too tight. Invest in good underwear and don’t scrimp on yourself.
6. Couch Potato Syndrome
Physical inactivity is a major contributor to major heart diseases, osteoporosis, adult-onset diabetes and cancer. If sitting around the couch all day won’t bring you these illnesses, it could cause you brain fog and loss of energy.
7. Laptop
While laptops are very convenient for people on the go, this device has been known to cause serious pain in your neck, shoulders, forearms, and even in your eyes. This is mainly due to hunching, the best solution here is to find a good laptop stand or table that will be optimal for your posture.
It also helps to take frequent breaks when working on a laptop to stretch those muscles and give your eyes a break fro focusing on the screen for some time.
8. Your Hairdo
The way you wear your hair can cause scalp discomfort because of the constant tension of the hair being pulled in one direction. This is especially true in women who love to wear their hair in ponytails. Women who wear their ponytails high and tight tend to feel soreness when they let their hair down. Solution is, let your hair down babe. Neatly though.
9. Skipping Meals
Every time you skip a meal, your blood sugar goes down. As explained by Maggie Moon, R.D., a nutritionist based in Los Angeles, “Sugar is the fuel your body runs on, and if it’s not circulating in the right amounts, every organ in your body is affected.”
If you’re skipping meals, you better think again, instead of losing all those pounds, your body goes into hibernation mode and tries to burn little calories.
10. Workstation
Workstations are meant to be well organized so you can work efficiently. But did you know that you have to arrange it in a way that you have to prevent yourself from getting shoulder and back pains? Just like in laptops, the correct posture and sitting properly will help alleviate these pains. Keep your posture straight and avoid incessant slouching.
