“Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some afternoon delight
My motto’s always been; when it’s right, it’s right
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.”
—”Afternoon Delight” by Starland Vocal Band
When one-hit wonder Starland Vocal Band sang their way to a 1977 Grammy with “Afternoon Delight,” it’s a safe bet they never predicted that over 30 years later, science would back up what they were so enthusiastic about in the song.
Romantics would argue that they best way to have the most memorable sex would be to have a candle-lit dinner first, maybe followed by some wine, a bit of Netflix, and chill afterwards… all of it happening during night time. But science states otherwise.
So if not at night, when is the best time to enjoy sexual encounters the most? Science has plotted the exact time to the dot and it is… 3 pm.
Entertainment and information website Distractify quotes hormone expert Alisa Vitti as explaining, “Afternoon sex is better because that’s the time of day when women have high levels of the hormone cortisol, which helps alertness, and makes them feel energetic. Around the same time, men have elevated levels of estrogen, making them ‘more emotionally present’ during sex.”
Unfortunately for most of the working population, they’re still hard at work (pardon the pun) at that time. But if caught committing a bit of hanky-panky in the office, at least now you can tell your boss that it’s all because of science.
