Yeng Constantino disagrees with Pacquiao’s anti-LGBT remarks, reaches out to gay community

MANILA, Philippines. An emotional Yeng Constantino decided to take a stand on the controversy involving Pinoy boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

The singer-songwriter, who is an active member of the Victory church (formerly known as Victory Christian Fellowship or VCF) was forced to tackle the topic after she received a tweet urging her to take a stand against homosexuality as a Christian like Pacquiao. In her vlog posted on her Facebook page on Thursday, February 18, Constantino stressed that not all Christians agree with the Sarangani representative’s stand on homosexuality.

The Kapamilya singer admitted that it was very painful for her to talk about the issue since she has a gay brother.  Constantino said she decided to talk to her brother after Pacquiao’s statement against homosexuals caused a massive uproar. She encouraged people to have talks with gay loved ones similar to what she had with her brother to re-assure them that they are loved.

Kasi kung mismo sa bahay naten di naf-feel na mahal sila, paano sila lalabas at mafi-feel nila na mahal sila?” Constantino said.

(Because if they don’t feel that they are loved in their own homes, how will they come out and feel that they are loved?)

Constantino also gave an inspiring message to the members of the LGBT community who were directly affected by Pacquiao’s remark.

(Not all Christians see you that way. There are many who choose to remain silent because they’re afraid that other Christians will criticize them. Believe that there are many of us. We love you.)

Huwag n’yong hayaan i-define kayo ng sinasabing condemnation ng mga tao about you. God believes in you, and God loves you,” she added.

(Don’t let the said condemnation of people against you define you. God believes in you, and God loves you.)
