UPLB graduate receives rape and death threats from alleged Duterte supporters after posting a campaign against him

MANILA, Philippines. After posting a blog entry titled Why I Will Not Vote for Duterte, Renee K., a graduate of the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), has apparently received abusive remarks and death threats from supporters of the presidential aspirant.

According to Renee, she received over 200 messages after she published her post against the tough-talking mayor of Davao City. While some tried to start a good and respectful conversation with her, others apparently went to the extent of wishing that she be murdered or raped.

In the caption of the album of screenshots of messages she compiled on Facebook, Renee wrote: “Well, I discovered 200++ messages since I posted my campaign against Duterte. Some were respectful and trying to have a good conversation but these…oh my. Can’t believe people wish other people to be raped and murdered because of stating one’s opinions and facts. Kaloka kayo.”

Renee believes that the Philippines has become more fearsome because of the attitude of the alleged Duterte supporters who sent her hateful messages.

“Lagi niyong sinasabi na gusto nito ng disiplina. (You always say that you want discipline.) Congratulations for being such great examples of how you want the Philippines to be,” she added.

In March 2016, Stephen Villena, another UPLB student, reportedly received death threats from Duterte supporters after a video of him interrupting the presidential candidate in a forum in UPLB went viral.
