With the May 9 elections just a few weeks away, traditional politicking and mudslinging are rapidly intensifying between candidates.
In a recent interview in Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte, Vice-President Jejomar Binay told the reporters that he will create an independent investigation body that will look into allegations surrounding Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and his association with the Davao Death Squad:
(“If I am to become the President, child-killers and those who kill the poor will be sent to jail. I will make sure that the Davao Death Squad along with Duterte who on many occasions admitted that he is the Davao Death Squad.”)
The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) standard-bearer previously gave statements against Duterte and his supporters, and this more adversarial stance is just a follow-through of this.
(“For a long time, there have been many reported cases (in Davao), and Duterte admitted that he is the Davao Death Squad himself. They murder without inhibitions and do not follow no due process. If there is a rumor about you and then they believe it as so, then you will be killed,” Binay added.)
The Vice-President would like Duterte, who has “admitted” on many occasions about his involvement in alleged extra-judicial killings and the Davao Death Squad, to defend himself to the independent body that he plans to create if ever he gets to be elected as President of the Philippines this election 2016.
