With the May 9 polls just a day away, survey after survey has been done to keep track of who could possibly take the lead in the electoral race.
In the latest Pulse Asia Survey on the presidential race conducted from April 26 to 29, Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Araneta Roxas II got 22%, Senator Grace Poe-Lamanzares 21%, Vice-President Jejomar Binay 17%, and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago 2%. Davao City Mayo Rodrigo Duterte remained on top of the Pulse Asia poll having 33%.
With these poll results, Roxas is confident that that the Presidential race is only between himself and Davao City Mayor Duterte. He said as much to reporters at a media briefing at the Liberal Party headquarters in Quezon City.
“Nakikita ko, kami na lang ni Mayor Duterte ang maglalaban dito (for the Presidential race). Tayo (referring to himself) lang ang tumatayo para sa hayag, tapat at malinis na pamumuno.”
“From what I can see, the fight (for the Presidential race) is between me and Mayor Duterte. It is only us (referring to himself) who stand for straightforward, honest, and clean leadership.”
The former-DILG secretary was confident in the Mar-Leni victory in the coming national elections.
“Sabi nila dati, walang kalaban-laban si Mar (Roxas) at Leni (Robredo), walang tsansa ang Daang Matuwid pero ngayon, nandito na tayo. Nangunguna si Leni at pangalawa si Mar Roxas.”
[“They once said that the odds were against Mar (Roxas) and Leni (Robredo), that there was no chance for the Straight Path but now, here we are. Leni is leading while Mar Roxas comes in second.”]
“Isa itong mahalagang development sa ating laban sa katiwalian, pang-aabuso, sa paghahari-hari,” alluding to the controversial statements and the style of leadership by the one leading in the said poll,Duterte.

Roxas also attributed his rise in the polls to the so-called “Silent Majority” or how he calls them “not-so Silent Majority” since these solid group of supporters finally came out on social media and in the streets to campaign for him. He also mentions the “Silent Medyo-Rity” in the increase in his poll standings. These “Silent Medyo-Rity” do not necessarily like him or the Daang Matuwid he plans to continue but are still committed to backing his presidential run.
“Sinasabi na (by the silent Medyo-Rity) ‘Mar, hindi kami para sayo pero ikaw ang magpapatuloy ng malinis na pamamhala’… Tanggap namin na may pagkukulang, may lehitimong hinaing sa pamahalaan. Kung may kulang, pupunuan natin; kung may mali, itatama natin,” Roxas elaborated.

Malacañang was also “pleased” with the outcome of the polls; with Robredo ranking first in the Pulse Asia survey, overtaking Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
“The next few days will be an opportunity for Mar and Leni to present to the people the tandem that will press further progress and address ongoing concerns of our people,” Palace spokesperson Edwin Lacierda stated.
