Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Andres Bautista has asked Filipino netizens and the public to be critical and not believe everything posted online. The statement was made in relation to social media posts detailing alleged discrepancies between the voter’s receipt and the ballot of Pinoys who participated in the overseas absentee voting.
On ANC’s Beyond Politics last May 3 (Tuesday), Chairman Bautista cautioned netizens about manipulated photos and documents which have questionable agendas.
“That’s the problem, it’s all allegations at this point. What we’re hoping is really that real evidence is presented to us, and that’s why perhaps we can tell also our netizens to be careful about A, the type of information being circulated, and B, don’t believe everything that you read.”
The COMELEC Chairman added that COMELEC has not received any formal complaints with supplemental and sufficient evidence from any of the consular offices where alleged discrepancies might have occurred.
“I haven’t seen any formal complaint, but we would welcome formal complaints. But please make sure that the evidence is really there so we can look into it, because this is a very serious allegation.”
