MANILA, Philippines. Atty. Salvador Panelo, the official spokesperson of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte, has issued a statement regarding his alleged violation of Greenhills Shopping Center parking rules.
The controversial lawyer was accused by a certain Clarisse Evangelista of disobeying parking rules at the said shopping center on Sunday, June 12, through a Facebook post. Evangelista alleged the high-profile lawyer left his gray Mercedes Benz car in a no parking area outside Mercury Drug Store and Tropical Hut at the Shoppesville Arcade of the shopping complex. Reportedly, a security guard asked Panelo to move his car but the latter was unfazed.
“He later stepped out of his car, brought out a Duterte tarp which he placed on the hood, walked away leaving his car in a no parking area. Oh, may nag pa-selfie pa,” Evangelista wrote.
Hours after Evangelista’s post circulated on social media, Panelo decided to break his silence and air his side of the story.
According to the seasoned attorney-at-law, he indeed parked his car in front of the mentioned establishments and sought permission from the security guard if he could leave his car for a short time as he was going to buy virgin coconut oil from Mercury Drug Store.
The guard supposedly granted Panelo’s request and told him that he could move the car in front of Theater Mall parking zone as soon as he finishes purchasing the item from the drug store.
Apparently, some Duterte supporters spotted Panelo and asked for some selfies with him to which he willingly obliged. One of them allegedly asked Panelo to put a Duterte sticker on the hood of his car so it could be included in the photos.
Panelo claimed that he was able to buy the item and return to his parked car in less than five minutes following the selfie session.
“There was no such violation of any parking regulation nor was there any exhibition of any form of arrogance. Evidently the person posting such false narration of an incident intended to put my image into bad light and picture me as abusive,” Panelo wrote.
“Obviously too the person is an anti Duterte basher who converted a casual incident into a false and malicious narration of an event with the purpose of maligning my person,” he added.
The management of Greenhills Shopping Center has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
