According to a study from Brunel University in London, people who share their fitness program on social media might have psychological problems. Yikes!
Attention-Seeker And In Need of Validation
People who are not ashamed in documenting their fitness activities tend to be self-centered, narcissists as you may describe it. Regardless if it is in a gym or just a normal run, this is a sign of boasting. Boasting your investments on your looks.
The study concludes that, “Narcissists more frequently updated about their achievements, which was motivated by their need for attention and validation from the Facebook community.”
True enough, these kinds of post garner more likes than any other posts.
But,
According to Dr. Tara Marshal, “…although our results suggest that narcissists’ bragging pays off because they receive more likes and comments to their status updates, it could be that their Facebook friends politely offer support while secretly disliking such egotistical displays.”
So, do yourself and your online friends a favor, tone down your fitness posts.
