The Lenten Season Is Fast Approaching!
As part of the Lenten tradition in the Philippines, Visita Iglesia is one of the most anticipated events of the Roman Catholic Church’s Holy Week.
Part of everyone’s visita iglesia is that you should go to at least 7 churches and ask for the Blessed Sacrament. For every church you visit, you should pray 2 stations of the cross.
Plus, there’s no harm if you believe in a superstition that once you complete the visit, any wish of yours will be granted.
We all know that Manila City is one of the oldest cities in the Philippines, and it has the oldest churches in the country. But despite being an old city, the churches in it have been maintained well.

Quiapo Church
Located in Plaza Miranda, Quezon Blvd., the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene is the home of the respected statue of Black Nazarene. Quiapo church, as we call it now, was destroyed a couple of times but it was secured in 1988.
Sta. Cruz Church
Built in Carriedo Street, Binondo, Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Church stood tall. It was founded in 1619, but was built in 1957.
Binondo Church
The Minor Basilica of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz and Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish is located in the District of Binondo, Manila founded by Dominican priests in 1596. Destroyed in 1762 because of the British bombardment, it was reconstructed and completed in 1852.
Manila Cathedral
Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is located in Intramuros. It was governed by Mexicans first in 1571, but the construction was completed in 1958.
San Agustin Church
Dubbed as the Immaculate Conception Parish Church of San Agustin, it is located also inside the walled city of Intramuros. The groundbreaking of it was way back in 1586, but was completed in 1607. This is known to be the “simbahan ng mga mayayaman”.
Malate Church
This Baroque-styled church can be found in front of the Manila Bay in Malate. Our Lady of Remedies Parish Church, was consecrated in 1588, and completed in 1624.

Sta. Ana Church
Known as the Our Lady of the Abandoned Parish Church of Santa Ana, is a Spanish-built church located in Sta. Ana, Manila. It was founded in 1720 and designated in 1936.
