The world is still in shock when a news outlet in Peru named Diario Clarin headlines a suicide inspired by the Netflix series. Franco Alonso Lazo Medrano, 23, allegedly jumped from the balcony of his 4-storey apartment. The witnesses shared that the fall happened after the guy yelled, “I can’t stand a heartbreak.”
All throughout the incident, his mother was there. On the other hand, Medrano survived the fall, but was pronounced dead on arrival at San Juan de Dios Hospital.
The news stated that the police found two suicide notes in his home, one to a woman named ‘Claudia’.
The note was followed by a list of names whom he had recorded tapes, claiming that those people pushed him to his edge, causing his suicide.
Series’ backlash
The huge success of the series is undeniable, but equalizing the success was the critics. Many have questioned the true objectives of the show and how it promotes suicide even more. Adding to the flame, it appropriates rape, according to some.
A great example was this recent incident where a guy patterned his death to the series. It ‘justifies’ suicide, admit it or not.
