With deep dark skin and piercing eyes, Nyakim Gatwech emerged to be the “Queen of the Dark”. This South Sudanese model who now lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota enthusiastically teaches people not to be afraid of black people.
Being an admirable role model for all skin types, she is breaking down all the barriers of ‘conventional’ beauty. She courageously smashes stigma and continues to encourage others to follow her lead.
The fashion icon firmly believes that her color is something not to be ashamed of. Her melanin is her beauty and the world is her runway.
“My chocolate is elegant. So is what I represent… A nation of warriors,” she shared on her Instagram.
Dark past
In a statement, she shared how an Uber driver insulted her by suggesting to bleach her perfect skin. Her response? Laughter. She could not believe how people once reacted for having midnight-dark skin and how cruel some questions could be.
The 24-year-old black beauty did not only advocates diversity in the fashion industry but is also a symbol for the Black community all over the world. As a model, she was able to bag numerous international campaigns that helped her to be the Queen of the Dark.
“Black is bold, black is beautiful, black is gold… Don’t let American standards damage your African soul,” she flawlessly said.
Before she had finally embraced her beauty, her unique skin was not celebrated at all.
“Her deep complexion was nothing to love,” by far the rudest comment she heard about her.
But when she got back up, she never stopped since then.
She instantly became the voice of the Blacks.
“You are beyond beautiful and the love I have for you is unconditional because you are me,” she said in one of her captions.
This model chick has now over 245 thousand followers on Instagram alone.
“My skin absorbs the sun’s rays and my hair defies gravity. Now you can’t tell me I’m not magical!” she said as one of her most empowering messages to every black men and women around the world.
