- Beware! Hotel kettles might be unsanitary
- Reports that claim people boil used underwear in hotel kettles circulate
As disgusting as it looked, news has been circulating that people are actually boiling their used underwear using hotel kettles.
How to ‘unsee’
If you’re a fan of making your coffee in the hotel room using their oh-so-fab kettles, you might want to think twice. Some hotel guests use it to sanitize their undies and you sure don’t want that.
On the other hand, boiling your own underwears are actually a thing now. It has been brought up to the internet and people seem to agree with it.
How it all started
Gizmodo Australia featured a tweet by @YugSTAR asking, “Real question: does anyone I know clean their underwear in a kettle when traveling?” and the answers are not how you expected it to be.
People started saying yes proving that it’s not just one person. There could be a whole community out there that we don’t know. Reports even claim that even the cabin crew do it to get back at rude guests.
What science says
This fact may disgust you, but true enough, 100% of the bacteria cannot be eliminated through boiling. Meaning that while you sip your coffee, you are probably ingesting the bacteria left in the last underwear boil.
With this, we suggest that the next time you pay a visit to a hotel, no matter how fancy it may look, clean the kettle before using it. Or don’t use it all, just order a coffee at the hotel restaurant.
