- PCOO faces scrutiny again after proposing P245-M additional budget
- Senators and netizens react on PCOO additional 2018 budget
The online world is once again #shookt after the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) has appealed an additional P245-million budget. For what? “To cover its media literacy program against fake news,” PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said.
All of which was said during the Senate finance hearing on PCOO’s proposed P1.351-Billion 2018 budget.
“We have already asked… about P245 million additional budget for the PCOO Proper and this will include activities on fake news that we would bring to the entire countryside,” he said.
Making his words work, Andanar claimed that his department is already putting up activities ‘that will talk on fake news through a media literacy program.’
Reactions?
Some senators present in the said hearing can’t help but express their opinions regarding the issue. Senator JV Ejercito for example, gives Mocha Uson, PCOO Assistant Secretary a chance, but targets Philippine News Agency.
“This is unacceptable as the gov’t’s main news agency. Nakakahiya,” the senator said pointing out the lack of gate keeping in PNA.
But, the major takeaway of this hearing was Senator Nancy Binay who bravely slaps Mocha Uson and PCOO the ugly truth.
“Ang hirap i-separate na Mocha na private citizen at Mocha na Asec. How can you, Secretary Andanar, fight fake news kung may mga instances na nanggagaling mismo sa isang Asec?” she said.
Can I have a round of applause for this senator?
When the news went public, as normal as this sounds, netizens went berserk instantly hearing the news of PCOO 2018 budget. Here are some of those.
