Netizens have resorted to jokes after Toni Gonzaga’s latest movie with Joey de Leon flopped at the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
‘My Teacher’ is a family drama film released in 2022 that stars Joey de Leon, Toni Gonzaga, Ronnie Alonte, and Loisa Andalio. The film has been selected as an official entry for the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival. Paul Soriano directed the film and produced it with Gonzaga, TEN17P, and APT Entertainment.
The film received positive reviews from movie critics but it did not hit its projected targets. According to the unofficial list, ‘My Teacher’ didn’t even crack the top 4 in ticket sales.
After finding out that Toni Gonzaga’s movie flopped, netizens pounced on her and Paul Soriano because the latter previously referred to his wife as the “most powerful” celebrity today.

Film director, Paul Soriano previously expressed, “You know, honestly, outside looking in, if I can a step back and just, you know, from a perspective of not being her husband, or her producer or her director… And just outside looking in, I really believe Toni is probably the most powerful celebrity today.”

Talk show host Cristy Fermin also questioned My Teacher’s failure to sell tickets considering Gonzaga has millions of followers.
The movies with the most ticket sales include “Partners in Crime,” “Deleter,” “Labyu With an Accent,” and “Family Matters.” However, the MMFF hasn’t officially released figures.
Joey De Leon previously said that he agrees with Soriano’s claim that Gonzaga is the most powerful celebrity in the country.
“Nabasa ko ‘yun. Mali kasi naman ‘yung mga bashers. Pinuputol nila du’n sa ano, e!” he said during a press conference.
“Ang sinasabi ni Paul du’n sa kabuuan, sabi niya, equally powerful ‘yung mga tumitira kay Toni. E, hindi naman ito nagre-react, hindi natitinag. So powerful ito… mas powerful. Kasi hindi niya pinapansin, e,” he added.
