Sharon Cuneta admits shortcomings in time for daughter KC Concepcion

Sharon admitted to being overly protective of KC during her formative years, especially due to the scrutiny of the public eye.

In a recent interview with Boy Abunda, veteran actress Sharon Cuneta candidly addressed her perceived shortcomings in terms of spending time with her eldest daughter, KC Concepcion.

KC, the daughter of Sharon and her ex-husband Gabby Concepcion, has been at the forefront of public interest, prompting questions about Sharon’s parenting journey.

During the interview on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,’ Sharon acknowledged, “Kay KC, Kakie, kay Miel, kay Miguel, hindi ako nagkulang sa pagmamahal, sa paalala. Kay KC, nagkulang ako malamang sa oras.”

Explaining the challenges of being a single parent, Sharon emphasized the dual role she had to assume. “Kasi, I had to be both mom and dad and I had to… someone had to put food on the table, someone had to pay for her tuition fee. I didn’t want to depend on sa parents ko.”

The Megastar expressed that she had to work tirelessly to support her family, navigating the responsibilities of single parenthood. Sharon recounted a conversation with her father, where she emphasized the importance of learning life skills to pass on to her child.

“I told my dad, because he said, ‘Kapag ‘di ka umuwi, wala kang ama.’ And I said, ‘Daddy, if I don’t do this now, I will never learn. Ano po ang ituturo ko sa apo n’yo?'” she shared.

Sharon admitted to being overly protective of KC during her formative years, especially due to the scrutiny of the public eye. She feared the potential complications that might arise given KC’s lineage and the history of her renowned parents’ love team.

“I was so scared kasi anak namin siya ni Gabby. Iba ‘yung anak namin ni Kiko [Pangilinan]. Kasi, parang Gabby [and I] was a love team, ‘di ba? So, ayokong magulo ‘yung buhay ng anak ko. Dahil baka paglaruan noon ng ibang tao, ibang press. Marami akong kaibigan sa press pero meron ding mga nasty,” Sharon revealed.

Despite her initial concerns, Sharon eventually became more supportive of KC’s decisions, especially as she understood her daughter’s aspirations.

In response to Boy Abunda’s inquiry about how much of KC is like her, Sharon shared, “She’s more like her papa. A little bit of me, of course. Nung maliit akala ko akong-ako, e.”

Sharon’s recent revelations provide a glimpse into the complexities of celebrity parenting and the balancing act required to navigate fame and family.
