The Department of Education (DepEd) has launched an investigation into a widely circulated video depicting a teacher allegedly berating and using “hurtful language” towards students.
According to a Viber message relayed by the Manila Bulletin on Saturday, March 16, DepEd Deputy Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Francis Bringas disclosed that they are currently “verifying” the authenticity of the video.
“We are in the process of confirming the details of the incident,” Bringas stated. “[This] will require a complete incident report to determine the next course of action in accordance with existing DepEd policies,” he added.
Bringas also noted that DepEd will provide updates on the matter once their inquiry has been completed.
The viral TikTok video, attributed to a teacher using the username “Serendipitylover,” has circulated widely on social media platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
In the footage, the teacher can be heard chastising the students for alleged misbehavior.
Criticism has arisen from some netizens regarding the teacher’s use of phrases such as “ang kakapal ng mukha ninyo” and “wala kayong mararating sa buhay,” prompting DepEd to investigate the incident further.
This is a meltdown made public. Is it right? Nope. But if you have never taught in a public school in the Philippines, you have no right to pass judgment on this teacher. You folks have no idea of how soul crushing teaching in a DepEd school is. YOU. HAVE. NO. IDEA. https://t.co/SGoZoXNNA7

Is this how @DepEd_PH mandates teachers to handle difficult students? I’m shocked by the words used and the discouragement conveyed. Also, why is she on TikTok? It seems like an abuse of power. This behavior is unacceptable for a teacher. https://t.co/fM0xENiMQ2

Cringe-worthy videos of public school teacher. Maybe she forgot the DepEd Order No. 49? I understnd where she’s upset but as much as possible, avoid speaking ill to the students. Always remember, “Although the tongue has no bones, it has the ability to break a heart.” 💚💚 https://t.co/gyfMizVPck
