Carl Quion, the owner of Taragis, has issued a public apology following a controversial April Fools’ Day prank that resulted in a netizen tattooing the brand’s logo on his forehead.
Quion not only expressed regret but also personally visited the individual’s home to provide P100,000 in cash as compensation.
In response to the backlash, Taragis deleted the April Fool’s Day post from its social media platforms and shared a Facebook video documenting Quion’s visit to the netizen’s residence. During the visit, Quion handed over the cash prize and offered additional gestures of reconciliation.
The netizen explained that he had overlooked the disclaimer on Taragis’ post and decided to proceed with the tattoo, intending to utilize the prize money for his youngest child’s education and to support his 16-year-old child with Down Syndrome.
“Unexpected lahat nang nangyari. Ito may anak pala si tatay na may special na karamdaman,” said Carl in the video.
“Kumbaga, yung April Fools’ Day na post namin, naging daan pa para makilala ko siya at kahit papaano, may napasaya kaming bata,” he added.
Quion emphasized that the April Fools’ Day prank was never intended to cause harm. He sincerely apologized to those who reacted negatively to the post and hoped it would serve as a lesson for all, especially fellow influencers and brands, to exercise responsibility online.
Although the netizen opted not to remove the tattoo, Quion extended assistance. “Sabihin mo lang ‘tol kung anong desisyon mo. Pwede tayo humanap ng derma na mag-le-laser niyan para matanggal,” he offered.
On April Fool’s Day, Taragis launched a prank challenging netizens to tattoo its logo on their forehead, with the promise of a P100,000 reward.
The netizen took the challenge seriously, sharing a photo of himself getting inked on social media, which sparked mixed reactions among netizens. While some defended the brand, others called for accountability.
