Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) representatives paid a visit to content creator Boy Tapang after he flew a kite made of peso bills, prompting concerns about the misuse of currency.
Boy Tapang shared the encounter with his followers, expressing regret and acknowledging the mistake.
“Maraming salamat sa mga nakaitindi at lalong-lalo na sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas patawad sa aking nagawa at maraming salamat.”
He clarified that the act was meant solely for entertainment purposes.
In response, he received a warning from BSP officials, reminding him of the legal implications and the importance of respecting currency.
Boy Tapang assured that he would not repeat the action and considered it a learning experience.
The incident highlighted the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 247, which prohibits defacement, mutilation, or destruction of Philippine currency, with violators facing fines or imprisonment.
The BSP’s intervention serves as a reminder of the legal and ethical responsibilities associated with handling currency.
