Comedienne Aiai delas Alas has confirmed her separation from husband Gerald Sibayan, revealing in a candid interview on ‘Fast Talk With Boy Abunda’ that the couple had tried to conceive a child through in vitro fertilization (IVF).
In the emotional interview, Ai-Ai shared that despite her age, she and Gerald embarked on an IVF journey in hopes of starting a family. “I really tried my best kasi mayroon kaming in vitro,” she shared. “Kahit mahina ‘yung mga eggs ko, tinatry ko mag-IVF,” adding that while they initially had three embryos, they tragically lost two.
Holding onto hope, Aiai explained that she had one remaining embryo, whom she lovingly referred to as “Gold.” She had considered surprising Gerald by attempting another implantation. “Mayroon pa kaming isang embryo eh. Sabi ko sa kanya, kapag nagkapera kami, isu-surprise ko sana siya na ilalagay ko ‘yung baby para magkaroon kami ng baby. Siguro ‘yun ‘yung nagtrigger sa kaniya na ayaw niya ng surprise na bibigyan ko siya ng baby,” she said, adding that this may have caused Gerald discomfort. He expressed feeling deeply hurt by the previous losses.
Aiai revealed that Gerald’s desire for children was a significant factor in their separation, acknowledging that her age made natural conception difficult. Despite the heartbreak, Aiai expressed her understanding of Gerald’s wishes and the impact it had on their relationship.
During the interview, Aiai also addressed rumors that she might revoke Gerald’s green card in the United States, firmly dispelling the speculation. She explained that she had initially petitioned for Gerald’s green card following their 2017 marriage and has no intention of withdrawing her support.
The couple, who renewed their vows in Las Vegas in 2022, celebrated a decade together in April.
