Protect Boracay on Facebook shouts for help after they posted a picture of Puka Beach in its current state. A construction site.
No further reports were made, but the netizens were enthralled with anger.
“Hindi masama ang pag unlad kung hindi lang sana nakakasira ng kalikasan…mahirap mang tanggapin at masakit isipin na makitang unti-unting naglalaho ang dating kagandahan na ating kinamulatan…tama nga ang kasabihang “everything has change and nothing stays the same” may magbabago, may masisira…hindi pa naman siguro huli ang lahat… kung mas marami lang sana ang may concern sa pag protekta kesa sa pera,” said Leo Gali-Leo on Facebook.
“nakakalungkot. hindi ba to kayang maproteksyonan ng lokal na pamahalaan ng boracay? tag natin ang mga news site para makatulong din sila sa pag report or pag research nito at marinig din natin ang side ng company na nagpapagawa nito,” said Maria Rona Beltran on Facebook.
“What sickens me about the understanding of how tourism in the Philippines sometimes is how local government just FORGET TO PRESERVE OUR IRREPLACEABLE NATURAL ASSETS over temporary and eyesore commercial establishments in the name of investments,” said Josip Tumapa on Facebook.
“Sana wala nang mag-promote ng Boracay. ‘Di bale nang malugi ang mga establishments at umalis ang dayuhan. Mas safe pa nga dahil hindi sila kasama sa mamamatay kapag umatake na naman ang kalikasan. Lol. Maganda lang ‘yan kasi tag-init. Wait for heavy rains and see for yourself how all these buildings will bring our home down,” said Kimmy Winter on Facebook.
Two years ago?
What became more intriguing to the netizens is when Andree Luces Abriam commented something about his post two years ago pertaining to the same incident. In his post, he revealed the on-going ‘destruction’ of Puka Beach.
He attached alarming photos as the construction began in June of 2015. According to the hearsay, an Oceanpark/Seven Seas Resorts will be built where Puka Beach was located. He called out the attention of the local government officials saying,
“Please STOP this if you have enough HEART and LOVE left for Boracay, especially that Boracay has given you and your family so much. Don’t let this be Our Legacy to Our beloved island of Boracay.”
The local government is yet to release a statement regarding the issue, and until then, netizens vowed to ‘never stop fighting’.
