Snow-covered Sahara Desert is something we should definitely see

  • It snowed in Sahara
  • Sahara Desert is seen covered with snow again

And yes, it is the third time in 40 years for Sahara Desert to experience snow.

Snow in Sahara

It came out as a shock as Ain Sefra, an Algerian town in the Sahara Desert, wowed the world after inches-tall snow covered the area. Reports said that ‘it clung to the dunes for an hour and a half before melting’.

Meanwhile, a local photographer Zinnadine Hashas wasted no time and took beautiful pictures of the Sahara in its snowy state.

The people there did not expect it coming, but a rare snow warning was given days before the weekend.

As reported by Earther.com, “A blast of cold air associated with a low-pressure system spiraling over the western Mediterranean brought rare snow the town and surrounding dunes and mountains.”

It’s very unusual to see Sahara covered with snow, but it happened in 2016. Before that, the only time Sahara experienced snow was in 1979.

As hearsay became louder talking about global warming, Earther had to clarify, “Now, some troll on the internet will probably use this as an excuse to make a joke about global warming. To which I say the usual: it can and will sometimes snow in odd places, even in a warming world.”
