- Studies say that men with curved penises have a greater risk of cancer
- It was found that having a bent, erect penis may be connected to having stomach, skin, and testicular cancers.
- Peyronie’s disease is when plaque forms inside the tissues of the penis
A curved penis may have an advantage to some, especially in the bedroom, but only a few knew that this also has its own risks. Studies found that those who experience this condition may be exposed to higher risk of cancer.
According to a research published on the Fertility and Sterility journal, the Peyronie’s disease — which is the condition that causes a bent penis — is actually connected to the symptoms of and stomach, skin, and testicular cancers. 1.5 million men were gathered to prove the idea.
Peyronie’s disease is caused when plaque (scar tissues) suddenly forms inside the penis’ soft tissue which causes it to curve when erect. It may be painful as it can cause erectile dysfunction. Though Medical News Today published that scar tissues in the penis is not really cancerous, it is also found noteworthy connections to urological cancers like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and penile cancer.
Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas researchers determined that those with the Peyronie’s disease, also known as penile fibrosis, have an increased risk of testicular cancer by 40 percent. Moreover, they also have a 29 percent higher risk of melanoma — a type of skin cancer — and a 40 percent higher risk of stomach cancer.
As no one has made these associations before, it resulted in the conditions being largely taken for granted. Urologist and study head Dr. Alexander Pastuszak stated,
“Nobody has made these associations before… We think this is important because these conditions are largely taken for granted, while they’re significant in the sexual and reproductive life-cycles of these patients, linking them to other disorders suggest that these men should be monitored for development of these disorders disproportionately in contrast to the rest of the population.
Dr. Pastuszak also mentioned that having a curved shaft is normal as the human body is rarely symmetrical and there is some curvature in all penises.
The symptoms of Peyronie’s disease are having a significant bend in the shaft, flat lumps felt under the skin of the penis (which is the scar tissue), erection problems, a shortening of the penis, and pain.
