An 8 year-old Gabriel Fernandez in California, USA was beaten to death by his own mother, Pearl Fernandez, and her partner, Isauro Aguirre, because they presumed he was gay.
The murder was said to be ‘beyoned animalistic’ as it was reported that repeatedly beaten, starved, tied up, locked in a cabinet, shot with a BB gun and once had his teeth knocked out with a bat. The boy suffered from a fractured skull, broken ribs, and burns all over his body.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge George Lomeli said that “It goes without saying that the conduct was horrendous and inhumane and nothing short of evil. It’s beyond animalistic because animals know how to take care of their young.”
Five years ago, Fernandez called 911 to report that her son wasn’t breathing. She told responding deputies that he had fallen and hit his head on a dresser. The boy died two days later.
Gabriel’s siblings testified against the couple’s claims and said that they would call the boy gay, punish him if he played with dolls and forced him to wear girls’ clothes to school. Jennifer Garcia, his first grade teacher addressed to the court that he just wants to be loved.
“I find comfort in believing he is now at peace…
And I know that unlike him, his abusers will never have peace. They will have a lifetime of suffering to endure, and I know I’m not alone in hoping they experience the same abuse in their lifetime and worse.”
Fernandez spoke during the hearing about how sorry she was and how she wished that his son was still alive. However, she also accused the family members who spoke about their grief, saying that they just want fame.
The mother will have to experience life in prison and her boyfriend the death penalty.
