MANILA, Philippines- The Pinoy couple behind the extreme animal cruelty video received a guilty verdict and life term for producing a series of animal crush videos allegedly purchased by animal fetishists from US, Australia, France, Malaysia, Korea, and the United Kingdom.
According to a statement released by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Vicente and Dorma Ridon were found guilty of four crimes by the San Fernando Regional Trial Court Branch 30: animal welfare crimes (RA 8485), child abuse (Republic Act 7610), wildlife-protection crimes (RA 9147), and human trafficking (RA 9208). Aside from life imprisonment, the Ridons were also ordered to pay P9 million.
PETA Asia Vice President Jason Baker said that the groundbreaking case is not just a victory for their organization.
This case is a victory not just for PETA Asia but also for Philippine law enforcement and people around the world who despise cruelty to animals,
Together with PETA, the National Bureau of Investigation tracked down and arrested the Ridons in 2011. They have been in prison since 2012.
Disturbing Torture Videos
In one of the videos the couple filmed, scantily clad teenage girls were seen torturing and crushing puppies to death.
Other videos produced by the couple showed a dog getting burned by flat iron, a dog getting skinned alive, several dogs and monkeys being stabbed in the eyes of the heel of a stiletto, and rabbits getting their ears cut off while being burned alive.
Report Animal Cruelty
Furthermore, Baker urged people to speak up about animal cruelty cases.
“Peta was made aware of these horrible videos by a compassionate person who stumbled upon them and took time to report it. Never be silent about cruelty to animals.”
He added that those who purchased the crush videos may also face charges.
