Chris Urbano, the Australian man behind the viral video “kaligayahan ng manok” or Chickenjoy, once again shocked Pinoys with his Filipino speaking skills.
In his latest video, the Maputing Cooking host called up Australian businesses with BPO ops in the Philippines and spoke to Pinoy call center agents in fluent Filipino.
The four-minute video clip uploaded on September 23 featured Urbano initially speaking to the agents in English. After verifying the agent’s location, the funny Aussie then spoke to them in Filipino.
“So Filipino pala ang kausap ko? Sino ang nagbayayad ng tawag ko kasi baka mahal yun eh?”
Urbano even translated his contact number in Filipino.
“Ang number ko zero-apat-tatlo-isa-anim-anim-anim-***”
One agent even asked if he is a Filipino.
To which he replied, “Hindi naman. Dayuhan ako. Australian ako.”
He also explained how he learned to speak Filipino.
“Nanood ako ng TV Patrol dati dito sa Filipino Channel. Alam mo yung TV Patrol, yung “Magandang Gabi Bayan”?
The host’s hilarious stint cracked up the Filipino agents. But his antics was recognized by one agent who then asked if he is the same Australian who posted a video while ordering in Jollibee.
With over 13,000 subscribers in Youtube, Urbano became an internet sensation in the country when he took his Filipino speaking skills to the next level by ordering food at Jollibee. The staff of the local fast food joint were completely amazed when he translated Chicken Joy to “kaligayahan ng manok.”
Based in Manila, Urbano said he loves cooking Filipino food with a twist and matches it with his favourite Australian wines. According to him, he learned the Filipino language through his interactions with hardworking Filipinos selling fresh produce in the local markets around Metro Manila.
