- The Philippine Retirement Authority named Dumaguete City as the best place to retire in the Philippines in 2018.
- It was also revealed that the Philippines is the most searched country in the world when it comes to retirement.
Dumaguete was named by The Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) as the best place to retire in the Philippines in 2018.
PRA marketing head Mervin Magbuhat shared that it is the first-ever city in the Visayas to have been named as the Best Retirement Area Deemed as Retiree-Friendly (RADAR).
Representatives from the PRA came to the city on Wednesday, August 8 and handed the award to the Dumaguete City Government‘s Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo.
The city was said to score 87.48% based on the criteria made by the United Nations, International Living, World Health Organization, among other organizations around the world. Factors considered included cost of living, friendliness of locals, climate, health care, peace and order, among others.
Magbuhat stated that 255 out of 300 retirees in the province lives in Dumaguete. “Tiningnan po namin ang number of retirees na nandito and figures showed that it’s been growing up. A dominating number of our retirees from Negros Oriental are living in Dumaguete,”
Adding to this, he said that the people of Dumaguete can expect more investors and stakeholders involved in the retirement and tourism industires in the city. Not only that, the number of foreign retirees are also expected to rise in the city in the next few years.
“We also interviewed some of retirees here and they said a lot of good things about Dumaguete,”
The marketing head said that Philippines is also the most Googled country in the world when it comes to retirement.
As of June 2018, the country has 56,432 foreign retirees, who are all holders of the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa.
