How to treat your nerve and back pain

  • What causes your back pain?
  • Back pain can be treated through both physical and mental processes.

One out 0f 10 people suffer from lower back pain globally. Back pain is also the number one cause of job disability all around the world.

So what triggers all the back ache that people experience?

According to research, around two-thirds of patients blame a specific incident on the day the pain began, most typically the lifting of a heavy load.

It is possible, but lower back pain may actually be triggered days or even weeks before the actual discomfort comes in. The least suspected triggers being alcohol, sex, distraction during physical tasks and fatigue.

The most common causes of back pain, however, are accidents and sports injuries. Some of the other causes are poor posture and inactivity. Stress can also be one of the problems.

That said, while it can help you avoid a recurrence, it’s not essential to determine what triggered your pain in order to successfully address it.

How do you treat it?

In one report, 75 to 80 percent of back pain will resolve on its own in the span of two to four weeks. This can still happen even with no treatment. However, there are some ways to speed up the recovery.

It is advised to relax both your back and mind whenever pain strikes. Applying ice can also be helpful as well as acupuncture and chiropractic care.

Addressing your emotions may be another important step. Depression and anxiety tend to slow down your body’s ability to self heal.

One can also use mind-body techniques such as the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) which includes alternative medicine like neuro-linguistic programming, energy medicine, and Thought Field Therapy.

So what do you need to do to prevent back pain?

Exercise!

Physical activities will help strengthen the muscles on your spine. Don’t worry, it’s not mandatory to do it everyday. Once or twice a week of high-intensity sessions should be fine. You can also include exercises that can promote muscle strength, balance, and flexibility.

Other than that, other suggested practices are staying hydrated, avoiding smoking, and improving your sleeping habits.
