October 11 was the first day of the filing of candidacy for the 2019 midterm elections.
A total of 27 Senatorial aspirants and 18 party-lists have submitted their candidacy. Below are some notable personalities that will take the challenge to have a spot in the 12 Senatorial seats that will be determined in next year’s May 13 elections. They have submitted their certificates of candidacy at the Commission on Elections.
Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III (PDP-Laban)
Seeking re-election, Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said that he filed his candidacy early as he’s getting married next week. “Maaga tayo pumunta because I’m getting married next week so gusto ko tapos na ito.”
Ferdinand “Freddie” Aguilar (PDP-Laban)
The singer-composer filed his certificate of candidacy for the 2019 midterm elections, seeking a Senatorial place under President Rodrigo Duterte’s party.
Daniel Magtira
Daniel Magtira, who claims to be the husband of Kris Aquino, is once again aiming for a Senatorial seat. He also professed his love for the actress during the filing of candidacy.
Anson Tuana
Anson Tuana just filed his certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections. Tuana also claims to be an old flame of former PCOO Assistant Secretary, Mocha Uson.
Willie Ong
Former Department of Health Consultant Willie Ong aims for the Senate. He is also a cardiologist and health columnist.
Neri Colmenares (Makabayan)
Former Bayan Muna Party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares also filed his candidacy. Colmenares is a human rights lawyer and activist that took his stand against the government’s Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law.
Abner Afuang
Ex-Pagsanjan Mayor Abner Afuang’s COC was rejected due to an error in the form used, however, he said that he will rectify and file again. He can be remembered as the policeman that poured water on Hayden Kho during a Senate committee hearing on video scandal.
Samira Gutoc-Tomawis
Former Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) member and assemblywoman Samira Gutoc-Tomawis will run for Senator at the 2019 midterm elections.
Gerald Arcega
This 42-year-old senate hopeful wants death penalty for all corrupt politicians. “Isusulong ko ang tunay na death penalty! P***** **a, patayin lahat ng mga kurakot sa gobyerno! ‘Yan po ang nararapat.”
