The Philippines currently tops the list of most number of breast cancer patients and incidents in Asia. One in every 13 Filipinas remain at risk of getting breast cancer in their lifetime. The said cancer is the leading type among all others, the need to raise awareness, inform and educate women has become vital.
Power in Pink.
SM Cares is now continually spreading awareness on breast cancer through Power in Pink, an event in celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The organization had the theme, “United we fight!” where support groups, doctors, families, friends and breast cancer survivors attended at the Skydome of SM City North EDSA. Power in Pink also held a mall walkathon and free clinical breast examinations by volunteer doctors.
Early detection.
Berna Velasco, program director for SM Cares Program on Women and Breastfeeding, expressed how early detection can lead to faster cure.
“As October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, SM Cares has been unwavering in spreading awareness about breast cancer. Earlier this month, we held Pink Ribbon Day and today, Power in Pink. We remain persistent in reaching out and strengthening Filipino women around the country by letting them know that there is nothing to fear. The earlier you detect it, the faster it can be cured.”

This program includes support for: Persons with Disabilities, Children and Youth, Women and Breastfeeding Mothers, Environment Sustainability, Senior Citizens and Overseas Filipino Workers.
