- Reverend went viral for his good looks.
- He said that he still doesn’t believe that he’s attractive and he is hoping that people will come to the mass regardless of who the preacher is.
A young man has been viral around social media recently after he’s been featured on the December 2 episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.
He is named Efren Jay-R Gubac Jr. and is from Penaplata, Samal Island. Many Netizens found him attractive, but he’s not all good looks as he is also sporty.
This man is not only shaking up the online community, but also the attendees of masses held at the Immaculate Conception at the island.
Why? Because he’s a Reverend.
27-year-old Reverend Jay-R was born in Tugbok, Davao City. He has been appointed as a Reverend Deacon which gives him the right to hold sermons, bless, and baptize.
According to citizens, ever since he started giving homilies in the Immaculate Concepcion, the amount of people attending the masses increased. And it’s not just because of his looks, but he’s also skilled when it comes to interacting with the attendees.
He started by being a sakristan during his third year of high school.
“Altar boy ako dahil sa aking mga barkada. Then after mag-serve, may laro ng basketball kasama nila. Yun ang naka-engganyo sakin maging altar boy.”
That is when he first felt his “calling” and described it as his “turning point”.
Reverend Jay-R admitted that he also fell in love with a friend of a friend in high school. And in the span of two years, he was in a relationship with the woman. But it turns out that she had no idea that he was serious about his hopes of becoming a priest.
In the end, he broke it off with his then girlfriend.
Although his family was supportive and happy with his decision, he said that what he experienced inside the seminary is not easy.
“Mahirap mag adjust sa seminary kasi yung ambiance tahimik, konti lang yung tao tapos puro kami lalaki. Iba talaga sa labas, yung adjustment ko grabe.
“Challenging talaga na maging role model ka sa community. Sa labas at loob ng seminary. Syempre seminarista ka, magpapari ka. A priest must be holy. A servant of the Lord.”
One of Reverend Jay-R wish is that for the people to go to the church regardless of who the priest is because the mass is not for the priest, but for the Lord.
