Employee arrives at work via an ambulance after not getting a sick leave

  • A bus driver’s sick leave was denied after his manager believed that he was lying about his illness.
  • The decision resulted to him arriving at his workplace in an ambulance.

It’s a person’s right to file a leave, especially if it’s for emergency and health matters.

After the case of the boss who denied the leave of a Thai national, who was supposed to attend his mother’s funeral, another man from India failed to acquire his sick leave.

A 36-year-old bus driver from Kaspapetta, Arasalloor, Erode suffers from diabetes. One morning, he has been rushed to the hospital by his wife and children, Hari and Meharika, due to complications.

He called his manager from Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Limited to get his sick leave approved but got denied as the latter believed that he was lying and just wanted to skip work.

The driver was also told that he either had to go to work or get his salary deducted. He was shocked as he still had 70 days worth of leave credits. But as his manager said no, he had no choice but to ask the hospital to bring him to work in an ambulance.

“I was in deep distress as my leave was rejected though I had 70 days in credit. That is why I came to the depot in an ambulance.”

But despite the presence of an ambulance, the manager still believed that the employee was pretending.

This resulted the family of the driver to seek for the help of other employees for a protest and the manager finally approved the leave an hour after his his arrival.
