- A man shared his conversation with a woman he went out on a date once.
- The woman was annoyed that he didn’t pay for her food like a “gentleman” should.
- He answered back that he’s also a student and was not obligated to pay for both of their meals.
So the date did not end well.
As women are less likely to have a job during the old days, it’s normal for the guy to pay for everything on dates. This culture is still applied in various countries but in others, like Denmark, insisting to pay for the food and activities may be seen as rude and sexist.
First dates are a delicate part of a relationship especially in the getting-to-know stage and can be either be awkward or satisfying.
Reddit user CuteBananaMuffin decided to share a story he experienced recently and how the date ended well for him, but it turned out that the girl didn’t feel quite the same.
He thought he’d try to ask her out again and that’s what when things went down.
“You made me pay for my own food and drink while you paid for only yours wtf,” she texted.
The man replied that she was the one who invited him and was “lucky” he didn’t pay for his food also. He also stated that what she ordered was worth much more that what he ate.
“And you were really expecting me to pay for that? I’m a student not your sugar daddy,” he snapped.
She then stated the old-fashioned phrase of “gentlemen ALWAYS pay for girl’s food” and proceeded to call him gay and accused him to only wanting to have sex with her.
“Well.. Ofc i wanted to have sex with you, but then i realised i might not have €20 for that..”
In a report by Bored Panda, the Reddit user said that she kept on talking about another guy during their date.
“The date was fun at first until she started talking about another guy and how much she liked him, but I thought ‘let’s eat, talk and leave’ since she’s into another guy, and it all crumbled when it came to the bill.
“She was shocked that I let her pay. She didn’t say anything at the time, but from her facial expression I realized she was furious.”
He clarified that he usually pays for the meal but he’s also a working student and had to pay for necessities. He was supposed to ask her out to make up for the first date, however, things didn’t go as well as he thought the other way.
