A photo of an elementary school student from Sta. Rita, Samar with his ballpen made out of wood, rubber band and an ink refill–is making the rounds online, and has touched the hearts of Netizens as well.
His teacher, Maricor Baculanta, stated on her facebook post that she noticed her student covering his paper even if they were not having a quiz. She later found out that it was because he was too shy to show his self-made pen.

Other Netizens praised the boy’s ingenuity to solve his lacking of school supplies despite the overbearing weight of financial constraints.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. chimed in on Rappler’s coverage of this story with, “What is this boy’s address? Every office has spare ballpens, all together thousands. Every office can afford to restock. Not just for this boy but all kids in situations that embarrass us for our neglect. Don’t donate money instead; it will only get stolen.”
