A traffic enforcer is being praised across social media for his honorable ‘sideline job’ of selling ‘bibingka’ (rice cakes) and other kakanin to motorists, shares RachFeed [Traffic Enforcer’s Honorable Sideline as Bibingka Vendor Earns Praise].
The Dailypedia previously featured the traffic enforcer, though at the time, the netizen who shared the video was not able to get his name or take a clearer photo.
VIDEO – Hardworking Traffic Enforcer Sells ‘Kakanin’ to Motorists along EDSA
This early evening, Top Gear Philippines shared a photo made by Facebook user Czes Rivera of the traffic enforcer, selling his kakanin. This time, the shot was excellent because it clearly shows his face and nameplate [GONZALES].
Judging from the green scooter and yellow bayong, this is the same traffic enforcer we featured before.
What struck Rivera and the people who commented on the Facebook post of Top Gear Philippines is the fact that the bibingka-selling traffic enforcer is very courteous and friendly. He never forced the motorists to buy – which actually made them buy from him!
In short, even though he was wearing his traffic enforcer’s uniform, he was very humble as a vendor to the motorists. This goes to show that this man is truly someone with a kind heart and an honest drive to earn extra money for his family by selling those kakanin.
Why does he need a sideline job, anyway?
According to Rivera, the traffic enforcer is selling bibingka for his children’s tuition. We salute you for that, Officer Gonzales!
It might be easier to earn money by extorting ‘kotong’ from motorists, yet he chose to earn the extra cash in the most honest way possible. It is highly likely that he is selling the bibingka while he is on duty, especially because he could be seen in uniform on those occasions he was photographed/videotaped.
He could even get in trouble for doing the sideline while on duty, yet he does it nonetheless so he could provide for his family’s needs! It would be heartless for his superiors to suspend him.
Several netizens pointed out how he should not be selling while on the job, yet many defend Officer Gonzales. Some netizens mentioned how they have spotted traffic enforcers texting or chatting while on the job, so what Gonzales is doing is not really far from these non-work activities yet it was the best thing one could ever do to try make ends meet.
How much does a traffic enforcer earn? Salaries are confidential, so we can’t really ask Gonzales how much he earns from the government yet it is easy to see that he is NOT EARNING ENOUGH!
If he is earning enough, then he would not be risking his neck by selling kakanin in the busy streets of Metro Manila. If he is earning enough, then he would not be risking his job while selling those wares!
Considering how many millions and billions of pesos are being discussed daily, in relation to our bigwig politicians, it is disheartening to see that a regal traffic enforcer like Officer Gonzales has to resort to selling kakanin for his children’s tuition fees!

This officer should not be doing this while on the job. Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble here but when your job is to manage traffic, THAT is what you should be doing! Not selling, texting, scamming, etc.
Do you think you can get away with this at work? Hell no. You can get fired for doing this sort of thing. While this may be noble (compared to other crooked traffic enforces), it still isn’t appropriate. This officer, is getting paid to do a job (through our tax money btw) that he isn’t actually doing. If he wants to earn extra, he can freely do so BEFORE or AFTER his job is done.
If he’s risking his neck by doing this, the owner of these photos shouldn’t have released them at all. Poor guy’s probably gonna get reprimanded and then he won’t get to sell his goods anymore. Sometimes people don’t think their actions through. *sigh*

Kung nagtitinda si Sir Gonsales ng bibingka sa oras ng trabaho, ninanakaw nya ang oras nya sa trabaho. Kahit maganda ang layunin nya mali pa rin. Naka uniform pa si Sir walang takot sa mga bossing nya.

sana magkaroon ng pagkakataon ang mga taxpayers na alamin ang estado ng mga government employees before magreact sa kung ano ang nakikita at naririnig. sa bansang ito, maliit ang pagpapahalaga ng mga namumuno sa mga nagtratrabaho sa gobyerno. kung itataas ang kalidad ng bawat empleyado kasabay ng pagtaas ng sahod, malamang mas gaganda ang serbisyo na ibibigay ng mga empleyado at namumuno. maliit lang ang sahod ng enforcer na tulad nya, kaya kulang pangtuition ang sahod nya. mas pinili nyang maglingkod kaysa sa piliin ang maling gawain. mas daig pa nya ang isang pulitiko, dahil sya makikita nating pinaghirapan nya at hindi ninakaw ang kinita nyang pera sa pamamagitan ng pagtitinda ng bibingka, di tulad ng karamihan sa mga nakaupong nanamahala sa ating gobyerno, effortless kung magnakaw, milyones pa.. kaya sana matuto tayong buksan ang atng isip at puso sa mga taong maliit gaya ni manong enforcer.
It is a conflict of interest. How can he focus on his job duties if he has another task to perform? As a taxpayer my comment is he shall do the job entrusted to him as an officer. What if someone yells for help that is life threatening and this officer is unable to assist due to selling bibingkas? He is already making money to support his family and education for his children, but if this is not sufficient then he either work extra jobs on his spare time just like anybody else or encourage his children over not the minors to be working students.

Selling bibingka is ok and he can be commended for doing it instead of making kotong. However, sana naisip ng nagpost ng picture nya na I-blur sana yung face at nametag nya para wag syang ma-reprimand dahil he might be selling it while he is on duty at kung sakaling off-duty naman na sya while selling it, hinde na nya kailangan mag -explain pa sa superiors nya kung kelan sya nagbebenta at para iwas intriga na rin.
Yes, mali naman nga na isabay niya yan sa duty niya and he might be using he’s duty time for his sideline, pero isipin niyo, kung kotong yang si Kuya, mas matutuwa ba kayo? Baka nasa isip niyo pa, “Mas mabuti yung mga kotong nanghuhuli pa” nanghuhuli nga, nagnanakaw naman. Be open-minded at least, this maybe good or bad but it’s not the worst alam kong nagbabayad tayo ng taxes pero wag niyo namang ipalabas na dinadaya niya tayo, he’s doing he’s job, he’s just not that focused on it.

sa malabon bawal mag tinda ang mga traffic enforcer naka uniporme man o hindi kc kapag hindi ka bumili maaaring mapag initan ka,,,kaya lng iba sa mmda pinopromote pa,,, pano yan magtitinda na lahat ang mga traffic enforcer maski mga pulis, baka tumaas ang ranggo nun, teacher sa pampublikong paaralan malamang maging pricipal yun…kaya advice ko lng sayo MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino mgtinda kna lng rin at baka maging presidente ka.

I have nothing against anyone trying to make an honest living. However, there is something terribly wrong with this situation – – a clear conflict of interest as well as abuse of authority.
For example, do you think this MMDA man’s judgment will not be influenced when it comes to apprehending his biggest customer? Is buying a lot from him not tantamount to a de facto bribe?
At the same time, this MMDA officer has admitted using his MMDA uniform off-duty to “encourage more people to buy from him”. Is this not a subtle form of coercion or extortion? Is he really allowed to stop busses in the middle of the road just to sell his goods? How is this any different from the MMDA and police officers selling liquor (usually fake) and soliciting “gifts” or “charitable contributions” during their lunchtime breaks? Are there no rules and restrictions concerning the use of uniforms, badges, firearms, and other government-issued items when officers are off-duty?
The way I see it, this man deserves a reprimand, not a commendation. Do we really want to promote our MMDA, police, and other officials who do such things and intimidate ordinary citizens?
If this person wants to earn a truly honest living, he should do so:
1) At his own time and expense,
2) Without wearing any uniform, firearm, ID, or identification with government that might intimidate people and/or provide him unfair advantage over others or allow him to violate the rules
3) Away from his assigned routes
To those who want to commend his actions, where is your common sense?
Why react so much over someone else’s life? Be open minded. He’s doing it for his family. Buti sana kung pantustos sa luho nya. Bago sana kasi magreact at magmarunong yung iba, alamin muna yung buong kwento. Hindi yung todo react na pero di pa naman pala alam lahat. Kitid kasi ng utak ng iba. If you think what he’s doing is wrong, do you think tama rin yung ginagawang panghuhusga? Will it help change anything? Why don’t you just mind your own business and get over it at mag isip na lang kung pano makakacontribute sa betterment ng country.ang daming officers ang gumagawa ng masama lately, mas gusto nyo ba yun? Kesa satsat ng satsat, akala mo magaling, wala naman palang ibubuga. Basta ako, saludo ako sa mga taong ginagawa ang lahat for their family. At imbes na mabadtrip kayo sa kanya, ipagdasal nyo na lang sya.
