- A student was urged to write a promissory note to pay the three thousand pesos bill balance without the knowledge of the parent
- The promissory note was based on the policy guideline of the school – “no permit, no exam”
- A contract should only be made between parent(s) and the school
The mother of a grade one pupil, of a recent viral post, had spoken out because of a promissory note made by her daughter to pay the school’s tuition balance.
At Our Lady of Lourdes School of Novaliches, a student was urged to write a promissory note to pay the three thousand pesos bill balance without the knowledge of the parent. The student was also said to be removed from the list of awardees because of the unsettled balance.
The mother’s friend, Clen Limpin, shared the handwritten note by the child as evidence, to the embarrassment of the principal.
“Ang tanong ko lang po tama po ba ito? Ang ipamukha ng mismong PRINCIPAL ng eskwelahan sa bata na nagkukulang ang kanyang ina sa kanya dahil lang sa late na pagbayad ng tuition fee? I feel not just for my friend but mostly for her daughter.”
“I can’t even imagine the shame na pinamukha niyo sa bata. Imbes na papuri ang ibigay ninyo sa kanya dahil I know she is a d**n good student eh ito ang ipinamumukha ninyo. Nakagagalit! You can call the parent naman di ba? Yes, we parents know our dues and we can talk privately without shaming the child! You can put us in shame all you want pero ‘wag yung bata! You never know what’s going on with our lives para gawin niyo ‘to. Ano sa tingin mo ang naiisip ng bata sa mga panahon na pinasusulat mo ‘to? Para saan? Ganito na ba talaga ang dapat ituro sa mga estudyante ngayon?”
On the interview with Raffy Tulfo, the mother had spoken out about the issue concerned. She said that the promissory note was based on policy guideline of the school – “no permit, no exam.”
But the school made a wrong procedure in addressing the issue, according to Maria Teresa Namoro, assistant school division superintendent of DepEd Quezon City. A contract should only be made between a parent and the school.
In response, the principal’s secretary, Ronette Vicente, said the student was able to take the exam and her name is still on the awardees list.
The mother thought that the principal was afraid of her action in fighting for the right of her daughter, as there were others who said that the principal had other issues before.
The mother also shared that the principal personally went to their home and brought some cakes, chicken, and other food to get the promissory note written by her child.
